ARIELLA HORTON
ARTIST STATEMENT
Nassau, an island in the Bahamas is my birthplace, my home and the inspiration for my ceramic work. It is a place full of vivid colour, carefree decoration, trees loaded with large ripe fruit and a vibrant community.
I try to capture these qualities, imprinted on my mind, with comparisons to another world, that of the city. The ceramic forms I make are influenced by the organic shapes of seed pods and I combine these natural forms with unexpected, man made, decorative details.
Suspended in air, like groups of fruit, my objects decorate and change the feeling
of a space. Bright and attractive, yet just out of reach, these pieces will hopefully
make us reflect upon our desires and the way that the natural and the man-
