ARTIST STATEMENT

I make work that is to be used - but I do not want to dictate how it is used or what it is used for. I find satisfaction in the fact that someone likes a piece so much that they wish to own it, look at it, hold it, use it.

My pots are made using the wheel, and I apply simple glazes made with iron and copper to provide colour on rich stoneware and porcelain clays. My work is influenced by the traditions of English and French country pottery, with a hint of the ceremonial and functional pots of South-East Asia.

I fire with flames, because, for me, the transformation through fire is a vital part of the process, an alchemical transmutation of base materials into something precious.
