ARTIST STATEMENT
My inspiration is landscape, particularly the edge of land masses where the sea has shaped and is still shaping the land. It is a landscape built slowly by the laying down of strata. Each stratum dictates the subsequent layer, and thus the profile of the particular land form, while all the time the sea frets, carves and alters it.
This is a confrontational landscape, nothing comfortable about it. It is wild, ancient, and unpredictable. It is my intention to evoke some of these qualities through the ceramic processes I use as I attempt to capture a glimpse of untamed Nature.
It is my belief that we all need a place to escape to in our minds, a favourite, significant place and this is mine.
