MONIKA KATARZYNA KOPROWSKA
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am strongly influenced by my childhood which was surrounded by textiles, threads and bobbins because I come from the former Polish Kingdom of Textiles, Lodz.
My work identifies the links between place, people and the passing of time through the use of metaphor which explore these nostalgic ideas.
I want to capture the ephemeral nature of our lives, situations and objects through the experimental use of materials and processes.
I work with clay and combustible components that capture the transient qualities of life through the very absence of matter. I exploit the momentary nature of stuff such as wax and fibre through the traces that remain in my permanent ceramic structures.
