REBECCA ABALOS

My porcelain figures combine animal and human characteristics, and are dreamt up from my imagination.  The creatures show emotion through body language and facial expression. Animated short films help me develop narratives and expressive forms. I’m not interested in creating perfect specimens; I  prefer asymmetry and imperfection. My work is characterised by rough surface texture with ‘wounds’ and ‘stitches’. Form is emphasised by the contrasting use of colour and glaze.

I hope that they can evoke both laughter and fear.
